The 2026–27 Astra cohort spans six Kansas districts—urban and rural, small and large. Each district picks its own standards, its own reading passage topics, and its own quarterly cadence—and Astra builds an assessment program around them.

Per the KSDE announcement of July 31, 2026, two of the six 2026–27 cohort districts (Kansas City Kansas and Olathe) will use Astra in place of the Kansas Assessment Program (KAP) in participating grades and subjects during Year 1. The other four (Dodge City, Geary County, Great Bend, and Humboldt) will administer both Astra and KAP during Year 1 to provide additional comparability evidence.
